'Where studio tans are worn with pride!'

Hi Folks, I saw a pair of these Soundking MT500A monitors. I searched the web and I found a few things about it.

it looks like this one (MT600A):

I found this:
MT500A

I saw these MT500A in a shop for about the same price of a pair of Samson Resolv 40A. Anyone has ever use it, test it, own it?
maybe I overlooked this brand, looks like a Chinese OEM factory; anyone knows ?

I heard them working but it´s difficult to compare it with other "known" (and more expensive) monitors side by side / under same conditions. they looks good, are very well constructed, quite heavy too...

anyone can help??
thanks

I found (so far) that Soundking was indeed a Chinese OEM firm that grows big enough to start commercializing a wide range of products under their own brand now!

This one looks familiar to anyone?

I was also looking into buying these. When I compared them to higher-end monitors, these were seriously lacking in bass, but these were 1/2 the price.

I'm still not sure if I should get these or not - or perhaps I'll get some 8/10" PA speakers instead.

Anyone else out there hear of these?

Well, I got them. The 8 inchers are BIG - but so far I'm OK with the sound. I had to tip in a bit of low EQ...

which one? Soundking, Seiwin, AxelVox, Hosa or some other "brand"?
Interesting that I also discover that they were one (of many I think) of the OEM Firms in China that worked for Behringer. I also found that Soundking is huge, one of the biggest audio firms in the world.

I'm still waiting for those 8 inches to arrive. I found only the Soundking MT500A.

Check this out:
(I don't know about this doc source. the link is at the end the list)
I also started to add some infos about some (at leat for me) "unknown" firms.
(it has been a very interesting research)

Did you test your 8s side by side with other monitors ??

thanks for the reply !!!

here it goes...

Ranking the industry's biggest suppliers by sales volume.(THE TOP 125: AMERICAS'S LEADING MUSIC & SOUND SUPPLIERS)
Publication Date: 01-APR-05
Publication Title: Music Trades
Format: Online - approximately 2758 words

Description
The roster of the 125 largest music products suppliers faces a broad array of challenges. For companies like Fender and Martin, it's all about cultivating a level of brand prestige that enables them to charge a premium price in a market flooded with copycat products. Hitech manufacturers like Digidesign and Roland scramble to stay ahead of the curve so their products are not rendered obsolete. For distributors like Kaman Corporation, the major issue is supply chain management--figuring out how to move a product from point a to point b with as little friction as possible. Yet if there is a common issue faced by all 125 companies on the list, it is how best to deal with the emergence of Chinese manufacturing.

A decade ago China was still a minor factor in the industry--a former totalitarian communist state that had some interest as a tourist destination but little commercial significance. Five years ago, China's future potential was readily acknowledged, but few grasped just how rapidly that potential would be realized. Today, the ten largest companies on the Top 125 are actively sourcing products in China and at least 70 other companies on the roster are importing some or all of their products from China. In fact, the companies without a Chinese source of supply have become the exception rather than the rule. At year's end, measured in units, China guitar imports were nearly twice that of Korea and Indonesia combined: Chinese upright piano imports were equal to Japan, Korea, and Indonesia combined; and imports of Chinese-made audio gear surged by 40 percent in 2004.

A large part of this rapid growth can be traced to cost structures that are dramatically lower than those in the U.S., Japan, and Europe. Western manufacturers routinely comment, "My bill of materials cost is higher in the U.S. than the cost of buying a finished product from China." Another factor is that China is home to manufacturers capable of building the full scope of music and audio products. In addition to traditional instruments like pianos, guitars, percussion, and brasswinds, Chinese manufacturers can build every link in the audio chain, crank out electronic keyboards, and even build computer peripherals. The final factor is a ferocious work ethic and a centuries old tradition of high-quality manufacturing. At every level of Chinese society, there is a fierce desire to move the country ahead as quickly as possible.

The rise of Chinese manufacturing has left the Top 125 facing a host of challenging questions. First, there's the issue of how to make use of factories in Europe, Japan, or...

I got the Soundking 8"

That would sound right - the store I bought them from sells almost exclusively Behringer stuff.

>Did you test your 8s side by side with other monitors ??
At the store, I tested them against some pretty good behringer monitors. Again, the soundkings had noticeably less low-end - that's what bothered me the most. So far, I'm happy with the sound, though I've barely used them so far.

Unlike PA systems, studio reference monitors are built to have a flat response, that allow you to hear your mix as it truly sounds (without any "coloration").

Yeah - I understand that, but I'm not doing any recording here - I just need better-than-home-stereo-speakers to put out my synth's and company. With my recording background, I'd be comfortable with either the flat response or the skewed PA's.

I used them a bunch tonight. Computer audio came out well rounded. I added a hint of lows on the piano, and it sounds quite good. For the price, it can't be beat.

Anyway - not to start a flame war, but what's the value of flat response speakers in a not-flat-response room? :-)

Peace.
