Hello guys,I've been studying mastering for years. I took a few courses on mastering. before anyone says its an art it cant be taught to a certain degree your right, but there are things you need to now such as room resonance, and how to do calcul...

It's the bomb, though this is a Rock Band shop here, though pretty muc the same. Finished recording last weekend...no-one got to bed before 3am such is the evil of this game. It must be stopped!
Mastering is a tool of perfecting a final product for release or display. Important too! As a hobbyist, musician, engineer I've spent big money on the kit I need to produce a demo. I have to ask - what is the likelyhood for me of polishing a demo ...
Is this your CV? It rocks, but I'm just asking!

I thought we just picked you to be safe. That's what I plan to do if I ever create something worthy of mastering. ;-) Cheers.

Streakys' Career History

Battery Mastering (zomba)
1992 - 2000
Soundmasters / eMasters
2000 - 2008
Streaky Mastering
2008 - Present

Bio :

Streaky began his career in the music industry as a professional DJ in the days of Acid House, specialising in Chillout and Balearic House, where demand for his sets took him abroad to countries such as Sweden, Ibiza and Spain.

As well as being a singer in a band, Streaky also started creating music in Cubase on his Atari (yes, Atari!), honing his talents for the finer points of music. He used these skills to produce tracks for film and TV, and also began remixing under the guises of Elephant and The Merry Wives for artists such as Groove Armada, The Stone Roses, Penguin Café Orchestra and many more.

In 1992 Streaky started work at Battery Studios in the CD Mastering department. Here he took the hands-on approach to mastering and taught himself to master records! During this time he mastered for A Tribe Called Quest, KRS 1, Mystikal, The Stone Roses, R Kelly, Backstreet Boys, Aaliyah, Fatboy Slim, Britney Spears, Groove Armada 'Lovebox' and many other artists on Jive & Zomba Records.

Streaky also developed a strong client base among London's leading drum & bass, dance & garage producers, mastering club classics like Shanks & Bigfoot 'Sweet Like Chocolate', Azzido Da Bass 'Dooms Night', Neneh Cherry vs Dreem Teem 'Buddy X', Artful Dodger 'Re-rewind', Kinobe 'Slip Into Something More Comfortable' as well as tracks by Sonique, Inspiral Carpets, James Taylor Quartet, Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros and many more he can't remember!

Streaky made the move to The Soundmasters in 2000 chiefly to extend his skills from CD mastering to include vinyl mastering. He swiftly developed a reputation as a talented drum & bass engineer, and he has cut records for Adam F, DJ Marky, J Majik, Ed Rush & Optical, Danny Wheeler and pretty much anyone who is worth their salt in the drum & bass scene!

Streaky has also built an impressive client list among bands, mastering albums such as Death In Vegas 'Scorpio Rising', Asian Dub Foundation 'Enemy of the Enemy', The Duke Spirit 'Roll Spirit Roll EP', as well as all the singles from Kasabian 'Kasabian', Embrace 'Out Of Nothing' and Snow Patrol 'The Final Straw'. Other notable albums include 5.1 Surround Sound albums for Kasabian, Moby, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Dave Gahan, and Martin Gore.

In 2004 Streaky launched eMasters, an online mastering service aimed at independent producers, musicians and record labels, with Streaky at the helm as Chief mastering engineer. This was the first time a leading mastering studio in Europe had provided a fully online approach to professional mastering.

2007 was a great year for Streaky, mastering albums for Groove Armada (Sony BMG), The Go! Team (Memphis Industries), DJ Kentaro (Ninja Tune), Taio Cruz (Island), The Resin Dogs (Hydrofunk) and Simple Kid (Country Gentleman) as well as singles for the likes of Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Dragonette , The Pipettes , Alexisonfire , Bat For Lashes and Adele , to name (drop) a few.

Streaky also has an impressive collection of vintage analogue keyboards, and is an amateur spokesperson for Apple hardware.

How to choose the right Mastering Engineer…

It’s never been easier to get the same polished finish to your music as the big record companies have had for decades.

Now with so many mastering studios and mastering engineers ready to take your money, how do you define the best from the rest?

Here are 5 brief points from my experience on what you should look for to achieve the best result:

1. Experience.

The Mastering engineer should have worked for a minimum of 10 years - by then they would have a good idea of what sounds right and… Continue

Buy your music from the radio with Cliqradio.com

Cliqphone
Cliqradio is one of those ideas I wish I'd thought of, nice and simple.

You hear a track on the radio, click buy on your phone and the track is delivered.
(Well there's a touch more to it, but that's the basic concept.)

The glossary of terms for sound engineers

If you are sitting in the studio giving it large to the client, telling them all about the virtues of phase cancellation or your beauty of your passive crossovers.
While there basking in your never ending knowledge on all things studio, they pop the question "whats that PCM stands for?'...(of course all of us know it 's 'Pulse Code Modulation!!!!') with your heart sinking, knowing your about to be sussed for the blagard you are, fea… Continue

MORE VIDEOS PLEASE!

I think it's because I'm just nosey but I want to see more videos. Still photos are still good, but video is the way forward. The users that have put up some video already have got the right idea - I want to see MORE! I don't care if it's done on an expensive camera, a phone, photobooth software, whatever - I just want to see some video.

Oh and some comedy commentary would be funny. Why do we speak differently when we;re talking while filming?!

So put your studio videos up people! I'm waiting!

Thanks for the comment :)
It's a nice room, yeah. Sadly not our own. It used to be a radio studio (so it sounds pretty dead), but now it has been converted in to a recording studio. And the good thing is that we got to use it for free!!!

Hi,
Thanks for the add.
If you have minute or two than have a listen to my uploaded track.
"Living This Lie" has one tabla, one acoustic guitar and vocals. The idea was to make it sounding rough and commercial as well. They've recorded it live, one take and in some jam session location. No studio used at the recording stage. I've done my best to make it sound BIG and pleasant.
Hope you would like it !

Waiting to hear from you,

Thanks,

Hi Streaky,

I was on your webpage and there I saw the link to mybedroomstudio.com. I am surprised to see that its a clone of MTMStudioNet.com, they are both from ning. I've been on StudioNet since July and I enjoyed alot.
I have uploaded 2 tracks from the album that I mastered, its called "Rough Cut" available on iTunes. I mix Living This Lie.
It would be great if you have a look. I would also like to share how I did it but after your feedback.

Thanks,
Kashif Ejaz
