He later decided that drums were more his flava when he got the opportunity to fool around with a set of drums at church camp and by the end of a week was playing at a banquet. He continued to play through high school playing at school concerts. After leaving high school Mikey attended the Jamaica School of Music putting him in a good position to meet top musicians and artistes of that time in Jamaica. A chain of pastry stores in Jamaica called Tastees promoted a series of talent competitions for local artistes; these were to launch a host of successful artistes careers. Namely Yellowman, Pappa San, Nadine Sutherland to name a few. Mikey played drums in the band (Tempo) that backed these competitions. Mikey started playing with Home-T while still at the Jamaica School of Music; this is when he got his first experience working at the recording studios at Jammys and Music Works. This led to opportunities to play as a studio musician for these studios, setting in motion, Mikeys production and studio career. (Teachers: Mikey Bennett, King Jammys) One link leads to another and Mikeys exposure to the rich and vibrant music scene of Jamaica continued as he went on to work with many of the artistes listed above. After graduating Mikey put his full efforts into productions and touring.He then went on to work with a production / record label with Mikey Bennett called 2 Friends producing Maxi Priest, Caron Wheeler,Shabba Ranks, Cocoa T, JC Lodge, P.O.V (son of Robert Kool of Kool & the Gang), IPSO Factor (Princes prodigies) on his label in Minnesota In Florida with Specialist (Shang Records) Mikey recorded sound tracks for the movie Clash, starring Jasmine Guy and worked on tracks with Kymani Marleys first album.
